Air Conditioning
Your air conditioning system works by pushing a gas refrigerant through the system. The main components of the AC are:
- The Condenser
- The Compressor
- Pressure Hose
- The Expansion Valve
- An Accumulator or Receiver/Drier
- The Evaporator
- Refrigerant (Freon)
AC Compressors
The best known part of the air conditioning system is the compressor. NAPA AC Compressors are available as new or re-manufactured parts. The Re-manufactured line is a good value at an economical price. This line has complete coverage for most import an domestic cars. If you prefer a new compressor, we cover most domestic vehicles and imports that use Sanden compressors.
More Components
Other items you may need for your air conditioner:
- In-Line Filter or Cabin Air Filter
- Suction Hose Filter Screen
- Compressor Oil
- Orifice Tubes
- O-Rings and Seals
- A/C Hoses
- Magnetic Clutch
Refrigerant
Refrigerant is available in R-12 (known as Freon) which is most common in older cars, and in R-134a. R134a is a newer chemical which causes less damage to the ozone layer and has now replaced the original Freon in most newer cars. Be sure to check your manufacturers recommendations for which variety to use in your car, as they are not interchangeable!
